Suburban Hours - Pushing on an Open Door | One Year On...
In collaboration with Suburban Hours.
For this assignment I was required to produce a 5 minute production piece in response to my client’s live brief.
This module built on production techniques, knowledge and understanding applied in 431AAD to the requirements of a live brief set by a client who provided me with the opportunity to gain first hand experience of working within the industry. The aim of this module was to develop my understanding of the principles and techniques of digital post-production, moving on from the general principles of editing to explore the many technical and creative ways in which digital film can be aesthetically transformed, enhanced and adjusted in post-production.
Myself and the members of Suburban Hours decided to create a short documentary looking back on their single that was released a year before titled 'Pushing on an Open Door'. Due to COVID restrictions and the national lockdown, we had to use Zoom to record the interviews.

"CONVERSATIONS WITH MYSELF" - A Short Film
In year one of FdA Digital Film Production at Warwickshire College, I was assigned to create a 5 minute short film. I also had to create an ongoing diary of the production process (including an evaluation of the final short), a treatment (incorporating the research from task 1), a script (using professional software), story-boarding, location recces (including imagery of each location), production schedules, cast list/character lists, lighting diagrams (or detail using natural lighting), permissions, risk assessments, shot lists and call sheets for filming days.
I had originally written and planned a film titled "callosity.", but because of restrictions to do with the coronavirus lockdown, I unfortunately had to push that project aside and come up with something else.
The national lockdown made it a big struggle to come up with a plan for a film that I could completely by myself. I eventually came up with a few ideas, and then finally settled with one of them.
"Conversations With Myself" was then born.
All from the comfort of his living room, 'The Kid' discusses with 'Light' and 'Dark' (a random and a future version of himself) random things that are currently on in his mind while in quarantine alone.

"This is Postmodernism" - A Video Essay
In year one of FdA Digital Film Production at Warwickshire College, I was assigned to create a 10 minute video essay about Postmodernism in cinema and to answer the question:
"Which for you was more important in developing cinema from its primitive stage: technical invention or the evolution of a film language?"
For research before creating the essay, I looked at a range of different types of techniques, films & TV shows; blurring boundaries, inter-textual, pastiche, parody & irony, celebration of artificiality, and fragmentation. I also researched genre mutation, evolution and inbreeding and iconic hybridisation.

"PROFESS" - A Short Film
At the beginning of my Digital Film Production Foundation Degree, on a "Kino Day", we were assigned to work in groups.
"Kino Days" at Warwickshire College are hosted by the lecturers of FdA Digital Film Production as a way of bringing students of all levels (Levels 4 & 5, and also BTEC Level 3 students) together to create a piece of work within a certain time-frame and in a certain location.
On this 'Kino Day', we were assigned to create a short suspense film within two hours. The filming location we were given was Temperance Bar and Cafe in Leamington Spa.
